The Ritz Carlton Tokyo (Ballroom Foyer and Wedding Salon)
The Ritz Carlton Tokyo, celebrating its 10th anniversary, occasioned a reimagined banquet hall under the direction of the design studio “SPIN” in 2014. For the banquet hall overlooks the verdant Hinokicho Park, the HOSOO textiles were designed with nature and the four seasons of Japan in mind and as if to draw the scenery inside, to the walls of the foyer and the curtains enfolding the wedding salon. Particularly in spaces where natural light enters, we drew on an abundance of material particular to Nishijin weaving called haku made of gold or silver foils pasted on Japanese washi paper and translated into thin threads. Responding to the natural light streaming in from windows, reflections off the metallic micro surfaces cause an expanding radiancy.
