The Historical Japanese Natural Dyeing Research Lab of HOSOO presented an installation of silk threads dyed using purple gromwell at the Roppongi Art Night 2022, “HIBIKI THE HARMONY.”
The installation, which features motifs of 24 seasonal divisions and 24 time zones, was created by artisans of the Lab, who carefully dyed each silk thread using the precious purple gromwell, an ancient Japanese plant, to create a spectacular 24-color installation. The Historical Japanese Natural Dyeing Research Lab has inherited the traditional plant-dyeing techniques of the Heian period and explores the rich colors that reflect the power of plants.
