Theaster Gates: Afro-Mingei
In 2024, at the Mori Art Museum in Roppongi, Tokyo, held the first solo exhibition in Japan by artist Theaster Gates, titled “Afro-Mingei.”
This grand installation, which portrays a new hybrid of Japanese and Black cultures through ceramics, architecture, and music, features tapestries and textile works created by HOSOO using traditional craftsmanship. These works embody the rich dialogue within Gates' artistic vision.
